Title: Assistant Professor
Dr. Haoteng Tang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. His research focuses on interpretable deep learning model designs, adversarial machine learning, as well as brain connectomics and bioinformatics. He has published 18 journal/conference papers in these fields, such as Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (SIGKDD), IEEE Transactions on Neural Network and Learning Systems (TNNLS), Medical Image Analysis (MeDIA), and Medical Image Computing and Computer Assistant Interventions (MICCAI, oral). One notable contribution of Dr. Tang is his proposal of an adversarial learning model showcased at SIGKDD 2020. This model aims to improve the robustness of the cross-modal (i.e., image-text retrieval) learning networks, where the modal-related component, used to improve the robustness of the learning networks, is disentangled through the proposed cross-modal data adversarial perturbations from the modal-unrelated component. Currently, Dr. Tang actively mentors a diverse group of students, including 1 Ph.D. student, 1 master's student, and 3 undergraduate students. Notably, his mentorship encompasses two female and three Hispanic students, reflecting his commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion within academia.
