Title: Assistant Professor

Research Expertise

Dr. Aritran Piplai's research focuses on automated cyber defenses, evolving malware detection, and proactive threat mitigation. He specializes in leveraging large language models (LLMs), natural language processing (NLP), and cybersecurity knowledge graphs to analyze and describe cyber-attacks. He also uses reinforcement learning to simulate adversarial scenarios, enabling the development of adaptive defense strategies and proactive measures against evolving threats. His work includes classifying malware from unknown families, detecting zero-day threats, and designing systems to anticipate attacker tactics. Dr. Piplai earned his Ph.D. in computer science from UMBC and a bachelor's degree from Jadavpur University. He has served as a program committee member for major conferences and held industry roles at Amazon Science and Samsung Research. At UTEP, his research bridges theoretical advances and practical applications to strengthen cyber defenses.
