Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program (REU)

(Anticipated) Fall Application deadline: August

The CAHSI REU program aims to provide undergraduate students with opportunities to explore research interests and gain valuable hands-on research experience. Participating in an REU can also help prepare students for graduate school. The deadline for this program is generally around January for the spring term and early September for the fall term.

Google Latinx Student Leadership Summit

(Anticipated) Application Deadline: March 2023 
(Anticipated) Summit: April 2023

CAHSI is a partner with Google for the annual Latinx Student Leadership Summit (LSLS). This summit was created as an effort to bring Latinx leaders together to share innovative and creative best practices with one another, as well as collaborate with Google’s Latinx leadership to benefit participating students’ universities, organizations, and communities. Students enrolled in a degree-granting program in the US and Puerto Rico are eligible to apply. The deadline is typically in February with the summit taking place in April.

Google-CAHSI Dissertation Award

Deadline: May 31, 2022

The award provides $25,000 in financial support to qualified Hispanic doctoral students to complete the last year of their studies. Requirements include being a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, being enrolled in a CS Ph.D. program at a CAHSI institution within one year of degree completion, and demonstrating an interest in an academic career. The deadline for this program is generally around the summer.

CAHSI Student Scholars Leadership Program (SSLP)

Deadline: May 31, 2022 
Time Commitment: Oct 2022 – May 2023

CAHSI students who have shown outstanding achievements in the classroom and in the community are encouraged to apply for this program.  Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply.  Selected Scholars work with the CAHSI Backbone and their local CAHSI representative to develop a work plan and coordinate efforts around student success while engaging their peers.   The deadline to apply is generally at the end of the spring semester.  Selected Scholars are announced at the annual GMiS Conference which is usually held in September or October.

CAHSI Advocates Program

Deadline: August
This program engages student leaders to serve as advocates in support of student success through promotive interactions and dissemination of CAHSI practices and activities. The program creates a virtual network of student leaders fostering community building.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowships Program (GRFP)

(Anticipated) Late July / Early August: GRFP Application opens 
(Anticipated) October: GRFP application deadline

To ensure the vitality of research and innovation, the National Science Foundation (NSF) GRFP provides three years of support for graduate study leading to research-based master’s or doctoral degrees and for students who are at the early stages of their graduate study. The Center for Minorities and People with Disabilities in Information Technology (CMD-IT) ensures that  African Americans/Blacks, Native Americans/Indigenous People, Hispanics/Latinx, and People with Disabilities are fully engaged in computing and information technologies. CMD-IT promotes innovation that enriches, enhances, and enables these communities, such that more equitable and sustainable contributions are possible by all communities.

Grace Hopper Conference

Deadlines vary by type of scholarship.  Decisions were announced on 6-15-2022 for two types

The Grace Hopper conference (GHC) brings the research and career interests of women in computing to the forefront and highlights the contributions of women to the tech world. GHC is the world’s largest gathering of women technologists, where women from around the world learn, network, and celebrate their achievements. With support from Anitab.org, CAHSI sends students to GHC which is generally held in September or October.  The deadline to apply for CAHSI support is usually the summer preceding this annual conference.

Great Minds in Stem (GMiS) Conference

Since 2015, CAHSI has partnered with the Great Minds in STEM organization to provide students with an inspiring experience at this annual national conference. Within the GMiS conference, the CAHSI Summit takes place and involves a series of technical and professional development sessions such as a hackathon, cybersecurity workshops, data analytics challenge, machine learning workshop, and Latinas+ sessions. The deadline for CAHSI students to receive financial support for this conference is August 15, 2022. The conference takes place in Pasadena from October 5-8, 2022.
