The Resource Library serves as a resource to CAHSI institutions for identifying evidence- and research-based practices and theory in order to understand what works best for whom and under what conditions. The Library contains peer-reviewed articles published in top journals and other sources that draw on theoretical approaches, such as book chapters, opinion pieces, and technical articles.

The materials in the Library are grouped by category to facilitate a search. First, the CAHSI literature comprises the reports and studies written by CAHSI members and external evaluators: It is grouped by sub-topics (Background, Signature Practices, Student Development, and Recruitment and Retention). Second, HSI servingness includes studies shedding light on the “servingness” at HSIs and the role of institutional ability to serve Latinx students. Lastly, the studies under the other four main topics, “Bridging, Recruitment, Retention, Career Preparation,” are first grouped by sub-categories based on the research topics and then re-grouped by the main topics aligned with the CAHSI INCLUDES mission.

The contents are what we know exists in the literature, albeit the literature is a dearth in publications relating to Hispanics in computer science. Thus, we encourage scholars to expand their research portfolio and consider research in computer science education, in particular, research on asset-based approaches, diversity, equity, and inclusion.




Written by CAHSI members and external evaluators, the CAHSI literature comprises the reports and studies of CAHSI initiatives since 2006 with an aim of broadening participation of Hispanics in computing and promoting students’ educational and occupational success in computing fields. The literature includes the following subtopics: Background, Signature practices, Student development, and Recruitment and Retention.


Aiming to expand the discussion on how to best serve our students and meet their needs, HSI servingness comprises the reports and studies of the definitions of “Servingness” at HSIs and departmental/institutional structures and responsibilities for promoting student academic success at HSIs.


Career Preparation includes the following subtopics:  Career outcomes in STEM, and Graduate Education.


CAHSI has a focus on advocacy and promotion of education policies and institutional practices that support academic achievement of Hispanic students in computing fields. In this effort, the CAHSI backbone will coordinate with Excelencia in Education and Dr. Anne Marie Nunez to set priorities, objectives, activities, and benchmarks for shared action; develop, design, and release national policy briefs; and coordinate national briefings on policy efforts and on the impact of the Alliance’s efforts to increase Hispanic representation and attainment in computing. Excelencia in Education has been a national leader in higher education policy regarding the needs of Latino/a students.

Included in “Bridging, Recruitment, Retention, Career Preparation” are articles published in peer-reviewed journals and are the top 25% of journals for education, as determined by SCImago Journal Rank (SJR indicator), which is a measure of the scientific influence of scholarly journals accounting for the number of citations and the importance of the journals to date (
