Natasha “Tasha” Nesiba is the recipient of the inaugural Outstanding CAHSI Alumni Award. Tasha first became involved with CAHSI as an undergraduate student at New Mexico State University where she was a leader in outreach initiatives. Her commitment to diversifying the STEM workforce particularly as it relates to gender diversity continues to be one of her passions today.
While a student, Tasha was instrumental in the Young Women in Computing (YWiC) program. The years of outreach and research that she completed with YWiC reached an estimated 10,000 students and resulted in collaborations with twenty-two local and fifteen national organizations. Tasha was also was one of the founding members and president of the Women in Computing student organization within the Department of Computer Science (CS). The goal of this organization was to welcome and support traditionally underrepresented groups in C-STEM fields. In 2013 Tasha graduated with a BS in CS and obtained her MS in 2015.
Today, Tasha works as a Software Engineer at Google. She continues to mentor, do outreach, speak at national conferences, and support CAHSI students and schools. Some of the more recent efforts where she has lent her talents include the Google HSI Campus Champions program and We are GWE Intern Summit, the Boston SheHacks Hackathon, and the Grace Hopper Conference. Tasha continues to visit the borderland to share her experiences and insights with students. Congratulations Tasha!
