Janet Thrasher is excited to bring her varied talents to the CAHSI Collective Impact mission of advancing diversity and inclusivity in higher education and beyond. She collaborates across the CAHSI Alliance and is keen to create and strengthen partnerships that result in positive outcomes for Latinos and Hispanics in computing sciences. Janet earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Colorado, Boulder, double major International Affairs (Political Science and Economics) and Italian. She was born in France and also lived in Italy, Germany and Libya. Janet moved to Houston recently after four years in the West Indies upon raising her children in Colorado Ski Country. She has an eclectic collection of friends around the world, testament to her love of experiencing different cultures and cultivating relationships from all walks of life.
Create alliance of female faculty for purpose of mentoring female students
Enlist alumni to share real-life experiences in the work place and expand employer awareness of CAHSI
Deepen collaboration with ACM and Cybersecurity Clubs to increase CAHSI membership and event participation
Raise visibility of CAHSI throughout University of Houston system and in Houston area
Establish partnership with SRND.org to recruit middle and high school students to Computing Sciences
Outreach to Houston area businesses to create awareness of CAHSI and the high caliber of CS students
Introduce and assist in assimilating CAHSI into neighboring 2 and 4-year colleges
Secure funding for professional development of middle and high school Computer Science (and other) teachers
Support UHD-based Student Advocates and their respective activities
